Chu Culture

Wuhan is one of the birthplaces of Chu Culture. Chu State was one of the big powers during the Warring-state period and used to cover most of the middle and lower reaches of the Changjiang. Chu culture was an ancient culture created by Chu people, known for bronze smelting techniques, silk weaving Associated with "the South Branch" of the ancient Chinese civilization, Chu culture formed part of the Changjiang River culture, which flourished alongside the Yellow River culture.

Chu Poetry

Represented by "Lisao", Chu poetry is of special style, conceived by Qu Yuan, a famous Chu poet two thousand years ago. The poetry, which is elegant in style, beautiful in language, clever in arrangement and word "xi" to convey subtle feeling.
His works handed down are "Lisao", "Tianwen", "Jiuge" and a fragment of "Jiuzhang".

Chu Melody

The artists of Wuhan have adapted "Jiuge" into Chu Melody, a Chu folk dance showing Chu people's pursuit of happiness, their grief over the dead and their prayer for a strong motherland. Set in impressive background, with music, poem, song and dance interwoven in harmony and traditional musical instruments played alternatively, Chu Melody brings back to us the fantasy and romance of Chu art.
Wuhan Foreign Cultural Exchange Association and Wuhan Audio & Vedio
